Brake Fluid Notes and Information

I read an interesting article on brake fluid recently that got me intrigued on the subject to dive into it a bit more and see what all I could learn about it. This article by Mike Mavrigian of Birchwood Automotive stated that different brake fluids have different compressibility. He stated, "Different brake fluids can dramatically alter the brake pedal feel with no other system changes." This all being based on the different compressibility of the various brake fluids. This opened my eyes a bit. In our race cars we have predominantly used Motul RBF600 and we have never had any...

Don't Cut a Hole in your K Powered CRX Hood

In addition to building cars because we love to do it we actually can offer great feedback to the community from the trials and tribulations we run into during the project car process. Tom's 1988 Honda CRX HF was recently converted from a B Series engine to a K Series engine here are the shop and one of the things we had to make work was gaining enough clearance to close the hood of the car. Don't be like all the other 88-91 Civic EF / CRX owners out there with K20 Powered cars and cut a hole in your...

Hytech vs Toda Header Test

Last Friday we were able to do a header test between the Hytech and the Toda V2 Header. The test car a B16A equipped CRX was already using the Hytech Header with great results (About 11hp everywhere over the DC Sports 4-2-1 for the B16) However we were looking for another header that had better ground clearance and stumbled across a Toda V2 at a deal we couldn't pass up. The results were alot better than i expected, With the Toda picking up power and torque just about everywhere, Without losing any power up top. Overall we gained the extra...

Suspension Basics

Pointed the Right Way story by john hagerman Camber, Caster and Toe: What Do They Mean? The three major alignment parameters on a car are toe, camber, and caster. Most enthusiasts have a good understanding of what these settings are and what they involve, but many may not know why a particular setting is called for, or how it affects performance. Let's take a quick look at this basic aspect of suspension tuning. UNDERSTANDING TOE When a pair of wheels is set so that their leading edges are pointed slightly towards each other, the wheel pair is said to have...

Edelbrock 4730 B16/B18c Camshaft Dyno Testing

We have been getting quite a few questions lately about the Edelbrock 4730 Camshafts on a naturally aspirated application. Yesterday day we decided to upgrade the springs, retainers and drop a set of the 4730 Cams into an in house project car. The Test Mule was an 88 CRX equipped with an internally stock B16A, ITR Intake Manifold, Omni Power 68mm Throttlebody, AEM Short Ram Intake, and Authentic Hytech Header. With everything installed and ready to go it was time to hit the dyno for tuning on the S300. The end result was pretty good, The 4730 Cams overall picked...
