I read an interesting article over the weekend that was about modern cars. It discussed how much computer hardware and software integration is in them and how they will become obsolete quicker than older cars. As these cars age technology progresses at a quicker and quicker rate. Using computers for everything in the car leaves it up to the manufacturers to ensure they keep the systems relevant, the hardware available and the software updatable. But if the patterns of other technology companies (let's think Apple and their i-Products) are any indication they are more incentivized to let the technology of 4-5 years ago fade way so you are forced to purchase the next, new thing. Keep this in mind as you lust after the newest thing on the market. Taking care of it over the long run will be a different animal as technology continues at record pace.
Buy old cars. Take care of them. Keep them forever.
